SkinPen- Microneedling FAQs
-
Microneedling is procedure where we use tiny sterilized needles that glide across the desired treatment area to create micro injuries which then stimulates the body’s natural healing process, as well as stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin help heal the skin and give a healthy younger looking skin.
SkinPen is a microneedling device. It is a non-surgical procedure for skin rejuvenation used for treating lines, wrinkles, UV damage, hyperpigmentaion, loss of skin thickness, acne scaring and now surgical scars, stretch marks, enlarged pore and hypopigmentation.
-
Microneedling is suitable for everyone. All type skin and skin concerns can be treated.
We would go through your medical history to ensure there are no contraindication before preforming the treatment.
-
There is slight downtime following the treatment. Your skin will appear bright and red for 24 hours. If treating scarring the redness may last a little longer.
The days following treatment, your skin will feel tight and tender to touch.
Around 4/5 days following treatment your skin may experience epidermal water lose, which can cause the skin to feel dry and slight flaking might occur. This may be minimal if you are using the recommended products.
-
Some clients typically feel some mild discomfort during their microneedling sessions, but it is not considered painful. Numbing cream can be requested if you are nervous or anxious about the procedure

Skincare FAQs
-
While all SPF will protect you against UV rays, there are two types of sun protection.
Physical SPF sits on the surface of the skin and works like a mirror, it reflects both UVA and UVB radiation. This method has the advantage of protection immediately after application. The most commonly used and effective minerals used in these sun creams are zinc oxide and titanium oxide. Zinc oxide has an added benefit to help encourage skin healing, acne and sensitive skins. Physical SPF also helps ward off UVA-related skin damage, including hyperpigmentation and wrinkles.
Chemical SPF absorbs into the skin and is only effective once fully absorbed, this is usually 30 minutes after application. Chemical filters act like a sponge to absorb UV rays, converting to infrared. The active ingredients in chemical sunscreens include avobenzone, octinoxate and oxybenzone.
At Sleek Aesthetics we use Dermaquest which uses physical SPF which protects against UVA, UVB and Infrared rays, protecting delicate elastin protein from breaking down.
-
Yes, you can mix and match from different brands. Dermaquest products fit into any routine, however we would always suggest you to use their whole range as the active ingredients complement each other. And we know what we are doing everything we can to help your skin.
-
It takes time for your skin to adjust to a new routine which contains new products and ingredients. This is usually between 28-40 days, depending on age. In the beginning you will go through the detox phase, where all impurities are brought to the surface so that they can be removed. When starting dermaquest you may not be used to using such active ingredients, which could cause your skin to breakout or get slightly drier. We would always recommend you to stick with it a little longer.
-
As horrible as it is, we stop producing collagen at the age of 25. Ideally you should already be using some anti-aging products at this age to help prevent some of the early signs of aging. Bringing products that have antioxidants or peptides into your daily routine would extremely benefit your skin.
Microblading FAQs
-
Microblading is a type of semi permanent tattoo, a tattooing technique using a small tool made up of tiny needles to mimic real brow hairs.
-
Brows usually last between 12-18 months before another top up is needed. This can be depending on life style, healing process and following aftercare.
A maintenance treatment is recommended yearly to redefine the shape and brighten the colour.
-
Some level of discomfort should be expected, most people report of feeling minor pressure and less painful than a typical tattoo.
-
Everyone's healing process varies depending on your body. On average it will take 10-14 days for the skin to heal and the colour to even out.
You will be given aftercare following your treatment.
Waxing FAQs
-
The ideal length for waxing is about 1/4 inch to 1/2 an inch. If your hair is not long enough, the wax will not be able to grip to all the hairs and you could get an uneven wax.
-
It depends on where you’re getting a wax done. We use hot wax on intimate areas as these are the most sensitive/painful. If you have waxing every 4-6 weeks the pain lessens.
-
Hot wax is spread thickly onto the skin once it is slightly dried it is peeled off the skin. Hot wax is for dealing with sensitive skin and thicker hair and will most likely be used for an intimate wax. Whilst strip wax is a thinner wax, it is for less sensitive skin and thinner hair and will most likely be used for areas such as the legs and arms. Strip waxing is removed with a fabric strip.
-
Beware of the sun, We advise you avoid sun exposure for a least 48-hour after a wax done. This is because the skin is more exposed and less protected. Always apply sun protection as waxed areas can be prone to pigmentation. As for sunbeds, it’s usually advised that these are avoided for at least one week before and after your waxing appointment.
